Pre-Thanksgiving Plan

I thought the following article was interesting for those who are looking to stay healthy or eat healthy on what in my opinion can be one of the unhealthiest days of the year. When I was growing up, Thanksgiving dinner was held at my grandmother's house and was a big event. It could be considered an annual family reunion of sorts. It was not uncommon to have 5-10 different pies or desserts on a table which didn't include all sorts of other baked goods like fudge, brownies, cookies and my favorite...homemade popcorn balls. All this was in addition to turkey, ham and all the other normal fixings.
As the years have passed, many of us have our own families and Thanksgiving is more of an immediate family thing now. There is still lots of food but I try to watch what I eat and focus on eating more of the healthy foods. The article gives some good steps on the days leading up to Turkey Day to help you stay on your healthy path.

  1. Thanksgiving is the same way in my family, everyone brings a ton of their favorite appatizers and desserts on top of the traditional thanksgiving foods. I have a very little stomach so I usually cant eat that much in one sitting. I have noticed that if i eat breakfast in the morning before thanksgiving, than I am able to eat much more. I think this is because it gets my stomach stretched and it is getting my digestion going. Since I do not eat a ton in one sitting I am always snacking on the left over turkey a couple hours after the big meal is over. I think the left overs are the best!

  2. Rachael I have to agree with you, I will pick all night long since my family tends to eat kinda early. Some of my favorites may be healthy every other day of the year but on thanksgiving I turn it into cassorole like sweet potatoe cassorole and find myself wanting seconds. I wish I got to see this atricle before the holiday, but i"ll keep it in mind for the next holiday dinner!
